The Battle of the Mediterranean

The German and Italian militaries are fighting the British for control of North Africa. Axis powers hold much of the Mediterranean area, except for one small island, Malta. This key island lies between Sicily and North Africa, and is a constant port for Allied supply convoys. It stands in the way of complete Axis domination of the Mediterranean theater. For this reason, it is a crucial piece of the puzzle to the war. The RAF Spitfires will be No. 126 Squadron, USAAF 51s will be the 111th Squadron, the Luftwaffe 109s will be Jagdgeschwader 53, and the RA 202s will be 97a Squadriglia.

As the enemy becomes more powerful in the region, we must stand strong and defend our position so that the war in North Africa is not lost. Our forces there need all the help that they can get since Rommel has arrived. If we lose this island, the enemy will dominate the Mediterranean and have a very useful port for themselves.

The tiny island of Malta is becoming a thorn in the side of our plans to overrun this area. The constant supplies it gives to Montgomery's forces in North Africa are beginning to give them the upper hand. We have to keep this island from sending them help and weaken its defenses for future occupation by our paratroopers.
